1. Next meeting: Weds. 5/31 @ 8am 2. Old Business: - Shiva LANRover problems/update. We have suddenly experienced a rash of LanRover problems, especially LanRover 2 (x2727). LanRover 1 has been continually "busy", yet only 1 or 2 people are actually logged on. Justin and Brenda fixed this (Brenda changed a setting in the modem pool configuration). When we reviewed any possible changes to the network that might account for this, we came up with the following changes: - printer added to network in the Unix server room (but not on the same segment as the LanRovers) - printer added to Registrar's office using EtherPrint box Justin and Carm will call x4000 to record these changes. - Network ADD estimate for Juliana Degone, Mental Health/Van Housen. Bob reported on his conversation with Bill Fisher regarding tenant contracts and network services. Network services are NOT part of the tenant's contract; therefore, we should charge for any services provided. Dave will estimate time needed to install NIC, TCP/IP records, software installation, initial training and ongoing support. (see proposal dated 5/26/95) - x4000. Bob will periodically remind our team to use this service to record any changes/adds/moves to our network (including voice, video and data). - Updating our Chipcom EMM management modules [tabled] - Wiring the "dorms" - review Anixter visit [tabled] - Resolution of problem with a student (Eric Phillips) who posted a message soliciting commerical activity on public News groups. Eric's account was suspended until we talked to him. He was "educated" about the improper use of his Internet privileges. His account has now been reinstated. - Site visit date w/ Cabletron. Scheduled for Thursday, 6/1/95. We will meet after this visit to begin planning in earnest for wiring student rooms (still looking at Bowman hi-rise for this summer). - Power outage on Sat/Sun 6/3-6/4. Everyone said they were prepared for this (see 5/16 minutes for details/responsibilities) Bob will send out a notice to our brown-bag users alerting them to the possible network problems that may occur with this outage. - Checking phones in the residence halls. Carm reported that Bowman, Van Housen and Draime have been completed. 3. New Business: - SUNYNet weekend coverage. (Bob) [tabled] - backup for Dave Brouwer's responsibilities [tabled] - Flagg Classroom. Mike Nuwer attended our meeting and reviewed what he is trying to set up with the Novell Netware server. He wants to segment the classroom network from the campus network. He is setting up the server w/ 2 ethernet cards and using Novell's "router" software to accomplish this. This software requires IP subnetting. Russ Nelson joined us in the discussion and assured us that we have set up our TCP/IP addressing to easily accomodate up to 62 additional IP subnets. To address Mike's subnet, we will need to do the following: - establish an IP subnet address for the Flagg Classroom. (Dave) - change our bootp/DNS records to reflect the new IP subnet (Dave) - notify SUNYNet to change our Wellfleet gateway records when the IP subnet is ready to be established (Justin/Dave) - Dave will be responsible for maintaining the Netware router. - establish a Novell Netware address for the Flagg Classroom and record other campus Netware addresses as well in our 4D database (Dave/Justin) 4. What's Important to accomplish by next week? - Work w/ Mike Nuwer on IP subnet for Flagg Classroom. - Prepare for weekend power outage. - Work on LanRover 2 problem. 5. Continuation of discussion on our roles for network problems and how/when to alert campus of problems with network services: [tabled for future meeting] - when an after-hours alert requires our attention - backup role for Justin's role as coordinator for network service problems - Brenda's role as information clearinghouse and her backup. - how to program (record messages) for the HOTLINE (x2884) 6. AGENDA for next meeting: - Voice services. "Intuity" (Brenda) - coverage set up for upcoming STC conference (Bob, Justin, Brenda, Karen, will be away) - Important goals for 95-96
