Present: Garnet Barrigar, Brenda Bennett, David Brouwer, Carmen Casolara,
Bob Jewett, Justin Sipher
1. Next meeting: Weds. 5/24 @ 8am
2. Old Business:
- Shiva LANRover problems/update. No reported problems since our
last meeting! Please report any problems using our x4000 data entry
service.
Carm reported that he has found severe noise in our trunk lines that
randomly occurs. Could this be a source of the problems we have with
unexpected modem disconnects? To be investigated...
- Network Services WWW pages. Bob reported on the information he picked
up at the UVM conference that he and Justin attended. Just click here
[UVM notes] to get to the notes (which are now linked to our "Wiring
the Residence Halls" page.
- Network ADD estimate for Juliana Degone, Mental Health/Van Housen. Carm
provided a parts and labor estimate: Mark Stoddard's faceplate ($98.93
for parts); Juliana's faceplate ($54.51 for parts); 16 hours labor ($320).
They would also need to purchase a faceplate cable and a NIC (network
interface card).
There was discussion about whether we should have to provide an account
for email if we provided network access to these tenants (or any tenants),
especially if they elect to use a modem in lieu of direct network
connectivity.
Bob will check with Bill Fisher to determine what the contract under-
standing is for tenants and network services.
- x4000. Nothing entered via voice-mail over the past week. Does this
mean we had no network problems to log and/or that we did not network
ADDS/MOVES/CHANGES?
- Flagg Classroom. Mike Nuwer was invited to attend our 5/24 meeting @
9am. Brenda will check with him before she leaves for vacation to
determine what his telephone needs/questions are for the Flagg facility.
- Updating our Chipcom EMM management modules to ver 4.01. Nothing done
to date on this.
- 2 modem lines for the Carson office. Completed!
- Wiring the "dorms" - Bowman South Hi-Rise. Bob reported on his latest
discussions with John Horan. John cannot market the Bowman rooms this
summer since assignments have already been made. That means that even
though we might wire the rooms, students with computers would not
necessarily occupy those rooms.
Carm reported that S&L Electric will be installing fire alarms in the
building this summer too and we would have to work around that schedule.
If we cannot start by early July, we would not be able to finish up
before the start of the fall semester.
We decided to go ahead with the site visits by Cabletron and Chipcom.

will provide Brenda a list of offices with networked printers. Brenda
will see that these offices are called on Friday to be sure they turn
their printers OFF before they leave for the weekend. This will prevent
the printers from moving to the "Ethernet Backbone" default zone. Brenda
will also contact customers outside the academic quad to inform them that
there will be NO telephone service during this outage (Res Life, Heating
