Meeting Minutes 5/10/95

1. Next meeting:  Tuesday, 5/16/95 @ 8am


2. Old Business:

   - Shiva LANRover problems/update. Justin reported that the version 3.5
     upgrades have been completed on both LanRovers.  We will keep the
     bridge between the LanRovers and the campus network in place until at
     least the end of May.  If we find no problems (stable performance), we
     will remove the bridge permanently.  
     
   - Network ADD request from Juliana Degone, Mental Health/Van Housen. 
     Carm and Garnet will estimate the job and report at the next meeting.
       
   - Skyline 1.1.  Justin suggested waiting until he and Carm return from
     their New Jersey training trip before making any decisions on how to
     optimally configure Skyline (i.e., put on a separate machine).

   - x4000 - We agreed to use this data-entry service for logging
     network events as well as changes/adds/moves to the network.  

   - Summer projects:
       Wilda is working with Dave to "clean up" our usercodes on the Unix
       box.



3. New Business:

   - SUNY Training Center's Networking Update workshop.  Bob gave a brief
     update on this workshop.  Key point--ATM at the backbone will be ready
     by the end of '95.  ATM will be widely available to the desktop by the
     end of '96. 

   - Wiring the "dorms" - Bowman South Hi-Rise.  Carm will estimate the cost
     of installing Cat-5 wire to every "pillow" in the Bowman South hi-rise
     by 5/24, including a wiring service closet with a patch panel.

   - Garnet suggested that we get together to brainstorm questions for Carm
     and Garnet to take to the New Jersey workshop.  We will do that in mid-
     June.

   - We need to update our Chipcom EMM management modules to ver 4.01; we're 
     at ver. 2.0

   - Flagg Classroom:  Mike Nuwer want to bridge off the classroom from the
     rest of the network and to move the Dunn phone to this area.  Dave will
     invite Mike to attend our 5/24 meeting to discuss this further.

   - Justin requested 2 modem lines for the Carson office--one for Doug and
     one for Dave.  He will submit a Network Services Request form to get
     this accomplished.

   - Important goals for 95-96:


4.  What's Important to accomplish by next week?

    - Backup for Thursday/Friday while Bob and Justin attend the UVM conference
      in Burlington.
    - estimate for Van Housen network ADDs.(Carm/Garnet)
    - reschedule Cabletron and Anixter site visits (Carm)

5.  Continuation of discussion on our roles for network problems and how/when
     to alert campus of problems with network services:

     - when an after-hours alert requires our attention 
     - backup role for Justin's role as coordinator for network
         service problems
     - Brenda's role as information clearinghouse and her backup.
     - how to program (record messages) for the HOTLINE (x2884)
