1. Next meeting Weds., 5/10 @ 10am
2. Old Business:
- Shiva LANRover problems/update. We received the 3.5 updates to our Shiva
LanRovers Shiva. The updates have been installed and are being evaluated.
- Network ADD request from Juliana Degone, Mental Health (Van Housen).
Nothing received as of 5/1. [: I received both work requests today]
- We reviewed the status of x4000, our data entry voice-mailbox and agreed
that this was still a very useful strategy but that Brenda would only
need to check on this voice-mailbox once/week. The data is not time-
sensitive, but is important.
- Skyline 1.1. It's been installed and is working. We need another
manual for the update (1.1). Justin will contact Janice to request
a manual. Using the product has slowed performance on Carm's machine
but that may be because data is being collected every second.
- Dates we expect to finish our summer projects:
DEADLINE
5/31 Phones checked to ensure that they are in working order for students
returning in the fall. (Brenda/Carm)
June WWW servers installed and on-line. (Justin)
7/31 Establishing a more streamlined SLIP/PPP install process (Dave,
Justin)
8/1 Clean up our usercodes. (Dave) [Work w/ Wilda Sutliffe]
8/1 Data communication updates on personal computers throughout the
campus (Network client software/update 4D database). (Justin)
8/17 Brenda's student phone service setup for the fall. (Brenda)
ongoing Unix host problems/setup. (Dave)
ongoing WWW development. (Justin)
? Wiring the "dorms". Carm tried to contact DEC about their
DECWorks product. We would have to replace campus amplifiers to
use this product to work on our broadband cable. We would need
to hire 2 helpers to do a wiring project this summer. (Team)
3. New Business:
- We discussed our backup strategy for this week/next week while team
members are at training workshops/seminars:
5/2 - Bob
5/3 - Brenda/Karen/Bob
5/9 - Dave/Carm/Garnet
5/11-5/12 - Bob/Justin
6/22-6/23 - Carm/Justin
- Do we need to establish a process for students to take care of stuck
processes (currently, call 2083, give your username, and say that you need
a stuck mail process killed.)? Dave will add a menu items for students
to use on their Unix accounts to search for and "kill" stuck processes.
Dave has added this to his Unix projects list for the summer.
- Important goals for 95-96:
- IMAP email server before 9/1/95 (need to do IMAP testing this summer)
- 28.8 modems for remote access.
4. What's Important to accomplish by next week?
- Solve the AppleTalk/VAX printing queue problem. Currently the queues
are stalling; problems seemed to get worse when the "cw" zone appeared.
Justin will work with Andy on this over the next week.
5. Continuation of discussion on our roles for network problems and how/when to
alert campus of problems with network services:
Problems w/ DNS, email sending (POP), WWW server *all* weekend.
[We tabled this discussion]
