   - SPOTVB management - status (Bob)

Goals: Ultrix box will become an interactive host for students
by start of Spring semester and will offer email (Elm),
Lynx (WWW browser) and a news reader. We will do this
over the holiday break (we'll have 1 month) (Dave)

NOTES will be available on SPOTVB through 6/30/96.

   - 2Gb drive for Unix servers. - status (Dave)

   - 267-2590 - status (Brenda)

     * Brenda reports that there has been no activity on this line and it
appears to be no longer functional; therefore, we can use this line
       for dial-in expansion.

   - Kellas building security concerns - NCC proposal
       (Carm/Justin)

     * we agreed that we need a broader plan here for security that
includes all areas that need to be secured (e.g., Carson 101)
rather than addressing security concerns piecemeal.

   - NYSERNet Gateway Pilot project (Justin)

     * No news yet, but Justin reports that the project is still being
       worked on.

3. New items:

   - Weekend power outage (10/8/95) - lost zones again. May
need to put LanRovers on UPS since they seem to be the problem
        for zone loss. (Bob/Justin/Dave/Carm)

     Discussion NOTES:

      * there was general agreement that most outages are for 5 minutes
        or less

      * the fiber bridges draw 100 watts

      * we should use a UPS in the following wiring closets/areas. We
will need to purchase the quantity of UPSs as indicated in ()'s:
         (1) - Raymond HUB
         (0) - Stillman Computing Center (will use existing UPS there)
         (2) - Raymond 5th floor
         (1) - Kellas network control room for LanRovers/Wellfleet

      * Carm will spec out the UPSs and determine costs.

   - Keith Compeau attended our team meeting to talk about
     Windows NT and library services:

      * Keith said that the library CD-ROM LAN and the on-line catalog
will be changing to Windows NT sometime during the 96-97 to 97-98
        school year.

      * Questions raised were:

        1. How will Macs/PCs access NT server?
        2. Who will manage the NT servers?
        3. What type of hardware will be needed to support NT?
        4. Will the CDs on the network be licensed?
        5. Can CD information be made available via the Internet and/or
if we know of TCP/IP connections to the CD information?
