Last meeting: 4/8/97 Next meeting: 6/5/97
1. Don King wants network access in the Lehman Hall kitchen back-office. To do this will require installing an 8-port hub, configuring the DEC400 switch to accomodate this add, and assigning an IP address. Dave will work with Don on acquiring the necessary desktop computer resources (NIC, software). Carm and Garnet will make the necessary hardware changes (above) as part of their network management training with Justin (3-weeks from 5/22 timline). 2. Crumb office moves (to upstairs). Should we use 10BaseT or stay with 10Base2 (thinnet) when cabling is installed for these new office spaces? Not sure yet. Will meet w/ Keith and Geri Linkins to see if the staff's computers will support 10BaseT (which would be preferred). This will require establishing an IDF on 2nd floor to support data and telephone cabling. 3. Network Infrastructure priorities this summer: - check residence hall telephone/TV taps - wiring new 2nd-floor Crumb offices for data/phone services - PACES wiring project (see notes below) - preparing the old commissary area to accomodate the move of Duplicating - overseeing the installation of the Raymond-Kellas 300pair - overseeing the installation of fiber/cable in the Crane complex - network managment training w/ Justin - replacing the ChipCom equipment 4. Physical Plant (PP) projects this summer. We need to understand what PP is doing this summer so that we know how that affects our work. We will meet with Tony DiTullio on Thursday, 5/29 @ 10:30am to review their projects. [Notes from 5/29 meeting] 5. PACES wiring project. We need to clarify PACES' expectations of our services and what we expect them to do in support of their SUNYCard/vending machine operation: - PACES needs their own troubleshooting procedure to follow when they become aware of a problem with one of their vending machines or registers. They should follow this procedure *before* calling us (see below). We will need to work with them to develop this procedure. This will help clarify when they should call us and when they should attempt to resolve the problem themselves or call Diebold for technical assistance. - PACES should *not* call Carm directly. They should report problems to our Helpdesk *after* they have determined that they cannot resolve the problem (that is, they've followed their troubleshooting procedure and now need our help.) 6. Brenda was contacted by Bill Hope in Public Safety about getting an estimate for installing phone service at the entrance to each residence hall. No mention was made of installing SUNYCard readers for door access. This is a big job (estimating) and does not appear to be fully thought out. Bob will call Chris to see if this request has money earmarked for it or whether this is just for estimation purposes. [NOTE: I called Chris and she said no money has been identified for this. She understands that this is a big project (estimating) and suggests we wait until the end of next year when it might be funded with lapsing funds.] 7. Network coverage for next 2 weeks (5/27 - 6/5) while Justin and others are away from campus. We reviewed coverage needs, based upon the coverage outline we made on 4/8, and felt we were adequately covered for the next 2 weeks. Next meeting: Tuesday, 6/5 @ 10am (following Dept. Team meeting).
AGENDA for 6/5: 1. Review informaiton from meeting with Tony DiTullio and determine what is needed to be done in Crumb (2nd floor), Sisson/Union changes (in prep for the centralized mailroom), Merrit Hall (moving Duplicating to the commissary), etc. 2.
