Meeting Notes - 5/29/97

Tony DiTullio - Physical Plant Summer '97+ Projects

  1. Centralized mailroom changes:   All Res Life offices, expect John Horan's, will be moved to the Sisson 2nd floor Lounge. John Horan needs to firm up his design for this area before construction begins. This project will need to be completed by late July.   [We now need to determine if the wiring of this room should be 10BaseT vs. thinnet. Also, it may be necessary to establish an IDF in this area.]     2. Central Stores will be moving to the old commissary area and will need 4 telephone lines and 1 data line (end of June timeframe).   Duplicating will eventually move to the old commissary area and will need 6 telephone lines and at least 1 data line (no timeframe; depends upon a variety of factors).     3. Saterlee 213 will be divided into 2 offices (soon).     4. PACES Business Office may be removing the wall in common with Trish Normille's office. The wall may containg some network cabling. This project is still the discussion stage.     5. Carson 107 may be converted to a student lounge area. This would involve the possibility of removing the wall common to the hallway (data plates are on this wall).     6. Two (2) emergency blue-light phones will need to be installed this summer.     7. Knowles MPR will be ready for use once curtains are installed. There be furter renovation of the kitchen facilities to create small "break-out" meeting rooms. If so, this would mean installing phone/data lines. A smaller kitchen area will remain and will also need a phone line.     8. There will be 80+ power outages occuring over the next two years (until August, 1999) as PCB transformers are removed from buildings on campus. Outages in the residence halls will be scheduled during the summer and over breaks. Though most other outages will be scheduled for weekends, evenings and holidays, buildings will be without power for up to 4 hours at a time. Knowles, as one example, is expected to experience 8-10 outages over the next 2 years.     9. Summer '98: Steam line project. Carm wants to put in 4" conduit between the Sisson (or Stowell) manhole and the Student Union.   10. 2-3 years out: Underground electrical distribution will be replaced. Carms sees another opportunity to clean out and/or provide new underground conduit.
