1. Status Reports:

a. Any Network Services projects pending/waiting? - Elevator phone status. Phone is installed but not working. b. Shiva LANRover status - Winsock problems (consult w/ Shiva). Bob will contact Shiva and ask for them to work Mike Mecurio on this. - Any response from Shiva re: logfile? Justin has not heard anything. - we will expand our LanRovers and purchase 28.8 modems for them with lapsing monies. c. Outsourcing our dial-in access and support. - Justin and Dave -- report on this. It does not appear to be a viable option for us given the cost and who may actually provide the support (SLIC was rumored to be recruiting high school students to handle their support lines). d. Wiring the "dorms" project. (Bob) - Current status (see Residential Wiring Project Web page) Still having problems with getting our funds and establishing a "letter of intent" with DEC. Mike Lewis and Bob are working on this. e. Unix hosts - changeover status: Russ is going to work w/ Dave and Erik on this. - status of 2Gb drive? Is here on campus. - hiring Russ (see 3/18 notes from meeting with Russ) f. Security for Kellas Hall - Tim Ashley (Public Safety) report -- Garnet's proposal outlining how this will be done and how much it will cost. We will purchase 3 combination locks and the alarm system and install it ourselves. We will move the library's film room to a storage room across from it. g. Network services work-order process. Next step(s)? We decided to postpone discussion on this until a later date. h. SPOTVB: Email list to notify users of 6/30/96. Bob sent out a notice to all VB users. There has been very little response to this--and no complaints!?! i. Downstream access to the Internet for Potsdam Central (PCS). - NYNEX, Time-Warner, Ni-Mo response to fiber request. No one has existing fiber they will lease to us or allow us to use. Only T1 service is available and that will be too expensive. - wireless connection: DEC will send us an evaluatio unit. - NYSERNet response (class C addresses). NYSERNet will not allow us to use our class B address and that means they will need to provide us with a set of class C addresses (3000+) for ourselves and PCS.

2. New items:

a. Timerman B8 network access (Physics Dept. request). Bob will submit the formal work order. We will cover the cost of the materials since this is an instructional space. b. Around the table: Justin: we should eliminate "custom" email addresses since we cannot provide it to everyone and do not want to create an "elite" group that gets this while everyone else must use standard email addresses (e.g., "Robert.Jewett" vs. "jewettrj") Bob will send out a message to those who have such an address and inform them that no custom email addresses will be used when we complete the Unix host changeover (see above). Doug wants to meet with the NST to discuss NICs to be used in student computers once the residential wiring project is completed.
