to Tenants of SUNY Potsdam

What network services and support are available?

An ethernet connection via our standard network faceplate (thin wire) will provide
the tenant access to campus-based network services other than those that require
an account name and password (e.g., Web hosts). This connection will also give
tenants access to the Internet. The tenant must abide by, and will be held
responsible to, the terms the Information Technology Acceptable Use Policy in
their use of any network service.

The College will provide limited technical support for network-related problems
not related to the tenant's hardware or software.

The College will provide initial configuration information (TCP/IP address) and
DNS service (domain name address look-up).

An individual email account will be provided at no extra cost. The College will
provide and configure email software and will provide limited technical support
for email service problems not related to the tenant's hardware. The tenant is
responsible for learning how to use the software. No training is provided.

The College will not provide an "office" or group email account. The email
account must be assigned to a specific individual. This individual will be
responsible for all activity occurring through the use of the account and must
ensure that this activity complies with the College's Information Technology
Acceptable Use Policy. (see attached)

What will the tenant be billed for?

The charge for network access, including an individual email account,
will be $20/month for each network connection. This fee will be added to the
tenant's monthly telephone bill.

What other costs will the tenant incur?

The tenant must provide their own network interface card (NIC) that meets the
specifications outlined by the College. A NIC can be purchased from local
computer retail stores or from mail-order. The tenant must obtain technical
support for their NIC through the vendor they purchase it from.

The tenant must also purchase a network cable that meets the specifications
outlined by the College. However, if a tenant prefers, the College can provide
a network cable and then bill the tenant for it.

I agree to abide by the conditions of this policy:
