I will be contacting you (department chairs) in the very near future to set up an appointment to conduct our annual departmental technology interview with you. Each year we conduct this interview with your department so that we can: 1. develop a proposal for the annual Student Computing Access Program (SCAP) plan; and, 2. develop our department's annual plans/strategies to address your service and support needs. 3. share information with your department about campus-wide projects, SUNY initiatives, and the projects involving technology by other departments. 4. share information about our department concerns and issues with respect to support. --------------------------- What's different this year? --------------------------- First, I will be doing the interview this year so that Doug, Justin and Dave can stay focused on support. It also helps me, as we prepare our departmental plans, to know more directly what your needs are and what improvements our department should be working on. Second, I won't be asking you about the individual computer needs of your faculty and staff. This year, we are asking that you send such requests to your Dean. After the Dean establishes the internal priorities for the school, we will work with the Deans and the Academic Computing Advisory Committee to combine the lists from the three schools into a campus-wide list and then attempt to identify funding, should it become available during the year. --------------------------------------- Preparing for the department interview: --------------------------------------- In order to prepare for our interview, I've listed the basic questions and issues I would like to address with you. It would be helpful if you would let me know prior to the interview if there are other issues and concerns you would like to discuss as well. 1. Do you have plans for special initiatives and/or projects for the 96-97 school year that involve technology? -- for your students, your faculty, your department? 2. What are your most important concerns and priorities for the 96-97 school year? -- for your students, your faculty, your department? 3. How can we improve our services and support to meet your needs? (For your reference, I've included an outline of services and technologies that Distributed Computing/Telemedia supports.) When I call to set up an appointment to interview your department, would you let me know if other faculty from your department will be included in the interview? Many thanks in advance, ...Bob Jewett Email: jewettrj Phone: 267-2699
