Women Going to NYSWCAA

Both the women’s lacrosse team and the women’s softball team at SUNY Potsdam have been chosen for post-season tournament action. The teams will play in weekend tournaments hosted by the New York State Women’s College Athletic Association (NYSWCAA)

The fourth seeded Bears softball team will play top-seeded SUNYIT at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. SUNYIT is the host of the 2004 NYSWCAA Softball Tournament, which will use a double-elimination format during the two-day event. Russell Sage is the second seed while SUNY New Paltz is seeded third.

Elmira College will host the three team NYSWCAA Lacrosse Tournament. The Lady Bears will play Elmira at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winner of that contest facing Brockport at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Men Defeat Oswego

The men's lacrosse team added their second consecutive conference win on Wednesday as they downed Oswego 19-14.

Potsdam jumped to a 6-1 first period lead stood 7-5 at halftime and never trailed the Lakers.

Raweras Mitchell netted four goals and four assists as he led the Bears offense. Chris Minei followed with three goals and one assist while Matt Hosmer went two and two.

Goalie Ryan Hanretty anchored the Bear win with 18 saves.

Potsdam now goes to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the SUNYAC. On Saturday they will host Oneonta in their final regular season conference contest.

Women Win New Paltz Nightcap

The women's softball team split their doubleheader at New Paltz as they downed the Hawks 4-3 in the nightcap after slipping 3-4 in the opener.

Freshman Amanda Maxwell went five and a third innings to earn the win for the Bears while Kari Brady worked the final inning and two-thirds for the save.

Leslie Hartley scored 2 runs in the win while Eliza Ladouceur and Holly Prievo each added singles. Melissa Frechette, Tony Blevins and Brady all finished with single rbis.
