the women’s lacrosse
team and the women’s
softball team at SUNY
Potsdam have been chosen
for post-season tournament
action. The teams
will play in weekend
tournaments hosted
by the New York State
Women’s College
Athletic Association (NYSWCAA)
The fourth seeded
Bears softball team
will play top-seeded
SUNYIT at 11 a.m.
Saturday morning.
SUNYIT is the host of
the 2004 NYSWCAA Softball
Tournament, which will
use a double-elimination
format during the two-day
event. Russell Sage is
the second seed while
SUNY New Paltz is
seeded third.
Elmira College
will host the three
team NYSWCAA Lacrosse
Tournament. The Lady
Bears will play Elmira
at 1 p.m. on Saturday
with the winner of that
contest facing Brockport
at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The
men's lacrosse team added
their second consecutive
conference win on Wednesday
as they downed Oswego
19-14.
Potsdam
jumped to a 6-1 first
period lead stood 7-5
at halftime and never
trailed the Lakers.
Raweras
Mitchell netted four goals
and four assists as he
led the Bears offense.
Chris Minei followed
with three goals
and one assist while
Matt Hosmer went
two and two.
Goalie Ryan Hanretty anchored
the Bear win with 18 saves.
Potsdam
now goes to 4-7 overall
and 3-2 in the SUNYAC.
On Saturday they will
host Oneonta in their
final regular season
conference contest.
Women
Win New Paltz Nightcap
The
women's softball team
split their doubleheader
at New Paltz as they
downed the Hawks 4-3
in the nightcap
after slipping
3-4 in the opener.
Freshman
Amanda Maxwell went
five and a third innings
to earn the win for
the Bears while Kari
Brady worked the
final inning and
two-thirds for
the save.
Leslie
Hartley scored 2 runs
in the win while Eliza
Ladouceur and Holly
Prievo each added singles.
Melissa Frechette,
Tony Blevins and
Brady all finished
with single rbis.
Brady
was on the mound for
all 6.2 innings of the
first game when she,
Blevins and Carrie Newcombe
each scored for
the Bears. Katie
Lemery finished
with 2 rbis while
Newcombe also added
1 rbi.
