Dear Alumni,
The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team is improving with each game. The team is very young and has nine freshman on the roster so better days are ahead. The team is a close group who really is in every sense of the word a "team" and works hard to become better players. Despite the record, the team has played well in almost all of the games and will be one of the better teams in the league over the next few seasons. Nicole Beauregard is closing in on her 1,000 point and is on track to accomplish it within the next 5 games. Nicole will be only the third player in the program to score over 1,000 points. We all look forward to her attaining such a great accomplishment.
The team used alumni gifts this year to purchase a Shoot-A-Way for improving shooting skills in addition to remodeling the locker room to improve its appearance to potential recruits as the best in the conference. We have purchased individual sit-in lockers, painted the room bright white (the players seemed to have more paint on themselves than the walls at certain times) installed a new dry erase board for"chalk talk" and have a new storage area. These new parts of the program really make it look like a first rate program and we are well on our way to the top.
I am eager to build a relationship with our alumni and we are looking to create a booster club in the near future. If I can be of any help to you or if you would want to be a bigger part of the program, don't hesitate to contact me. My door is always open and I am a phone call or e-mail away. I would like to be able to utilize our alumni to speak to potential recruits if you are willing to help.
As you may have heard, this year SUNY Potsdam will be embarking on a capital campaign. $500,000 of this campaign has been designated to support SUNY Potsdam Athletics. $250,000 will be used to enhance and upgrade Maxcy Hall, which will include honoring former coach and athletic director, Jerry Welsh with the naming of the gymnasium. The remaining $250,000 will be raised for a travel and recruitment endowment fund for all teams. This will not only benefit our basketball program, but the entire Potsdam athletic program will grow and become more competitive. We hope you will consider making a gift over and above your annual gift to our team, to help us accomplish our campaign goals. You could even pledge a gift to athletics now and spread the payments over the next five years. And, for gifts or pledges of $500 or more, your name will be placed on a special plaque in Maxcy Hall, and you would be eligible to receive a complimentary pass to play in our SUNY Potsdam "Presidentís Cup" Golf Tournament in Massena on Friday, July 13 during reunion weekend! Many athletic alumni games will be taking place on July 14 of that weekend as well.
If you would like to make a gift, you can do so directly via our online giving form https://www.safepage.com/potsdam . A current student will be calling you soon to ask you about a gift. We thank you in advance for your continued support and we hope to see you this summer.
Hoopfully yours,
