photo of Coach VaadiHead Coach McEwen Joe Vaadi enters his fifth years at the helm of SUNY Potsdam Bears Men's Soccer. Coach Vaadi is a 1988 Potsdam grad with a Bachelors Degree in history. After bringing in one of the largest men' soccer recruiting classes in college history, Coach Vaadi now looks to get the team headed in the right direction. "We have been so close to moving forward and I feel that this is the year that things will finally progress," noted Vaadi. Coach Vaadi also coached the Women's Basketball Team from 1992-1999. He was named NABC District Coach of the Year in 1994. Coach Vaadi, who currently resides in Potsdam, is a Health and Physical Education intructor at SUNY  photo of Coach KazmierczakCoach PikeNick Hillary comes to the Bears from Saint Lawrence where his team won the 1999 NCAA Division III Championship. Hillary was a four-year starter and team captian during both his junior and senior year's at SLU. An NSCAA All American and the 1999 Regional Defensive Player of the Year, Hilary also was named 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team Regional All-American following both the 1998 and the 1999 seasons. Hillary, a mathematics major, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at SLU.

photo of Kathleen JamesKathleen James As a senior captain, Kathleen will lead by example. ÔKathÕ is an extremely decorated outside hitter, winning numerous awards from Jr. Olympics to high school to intercollegiate awards. KathleenÕs ability to see holes in her opponents defense and then slamming the ball down has given her the nickname ÔThe HammerÕ with her teammates. Not only can she play offfense, but Kath showed her defensive skills and led theteam in digs last season. Kath hails from Fayetteville, NY and played for Coach Mary Cawley-Oliver at Fayetteville-Manlius High. KathÕs intensity on the court is much bigger than her 5Õ7 frame. The daughter of Stephen and Patricia James, Kathleen is a DeanÕs list student majoring in English Literature and Elementary Education. photo of Michelle JeffordsMichelle Jeffords Michelle is a senior captain that also will lead by example. Michelle is an extremely dedicated volleyball player that not only excells on the court but off as well. At outside hitter Michelle is a force, but she will also block & hit from the middle and play defense as well. Michelle hails from Greenfield Center, NY, and played at Saratoga Springs High. Michelle is coming off an off-season injury and seems to be suffering no ill effects from a broken hand she got while sliding into a base during her softball season. Michelle is a leader off the court as well, as a DeanÕs list Psychology and Community Health student, or as the President of the Student Athletic Advisory Board, or as captain of the softball team. Michelle is the daughter of Marcelle Jeffords.
photo of Miranda LoGuidiceMiranda LoGiudice This sophomore outside hitter will have to step up this season for the Bears. After seeing limited time on last yearÕs squad as a freshman, Miranda now is one of the few veterans on the team and is thrown in at a starting position. At 5Õ9, Miranda is a powerfull hitter from the outside. Miranda is from Elizaville, NY, and played for Germantown High. The daughter of Susan and Tony LoGiudice, Miranda has yet to declare a major. photo of Migdal JulieJulie-Marie Migdal Julie has yet to see much playing time for the Bears, but Coach McEwen would like this season to be her break out year. This middle hitter is 5Õ11 and could be a strong presence in the middle, specifically defensively. Julie is from Parish, NY, playing at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High. A junior, Julie is the daughter of Kathy and John Migdal, majoring in Psychology.
photo of Ryea NoreaultRaya Noreault This sophomore outside hitter begins her second season for the Bears. After not seeing much playing time last season Raya improved greatly over the off-season and continues to improve daily. A native of Massena, NY, Raya played for Massena High. RayaÕs anticÕs at practice and games keep all of her teammates in good spirits, specifically for the last game of last season, Raya surprised the team dressing up in a Bear costume and leading the team and crowd in cheering on the Bears. Raya is the daughter of Mame and Robert Noreault and has yet to declare a major. photo of Christina CalkinsChristina Calkins Christina begins her second year here for the Bears after transfering from Nazereth College. This 5Õ6 junior, will see limited time setting this year but may be used in key situations as an outside hitter. ÒChrisÓ hails from Schenectady, NY, and played for the Patriots at Schenectady High. The daughter of Robert and Mary Calkins, Chris is an Art Education major.
photo of Mandy AgnewMandy Agnew Mandy is a freshman coming in to collegiate sport for the very first time. Mandy is proving that she is more than ready to take on the challenge. At a tiny 5Õ4, she will see action this season mainly as a defensive specialist. The quick reflexed rookie hails from Ellicottville, NY and played her high school volleyball at Cattaraugus. The Bears will look for great things to come from this very young setter. Mandy is the daughter of Mark Agnew and Vicki Rupp and has yet to declare a major. photo of Rhesa BrowneRhesa Browne Rhesa is an outside hitter from Yonkers, NY, playing high school volleyball at Charles E. Gorton High. This 5Õ9 freshman brings strength to the front line. Rhesa is also a two sport athlete for the Bears as she will play basketball in the winter. Rhesa is a computer science major and is the daughter of Daphne Browne.
photo of Adrienne CalcagnoAdrienne Calcagno This young freshman will be looking to prove herself on the courts of her first collegiate experience for the Bears. This season Adrienne will likely see some playing time in the back row as a defensive specialist. Adrienne comes to the Bears from Pittsford, NY. Daughter of Fred and Becky Calcagno, she played for Sutherland High. Adrienne is an Elementary Education major. .  photo of Brittney EldridgeBrittney Eldridge Brittney comes to the Bears from Carthage, NY, and will make a big impact as a freshman. This 5Õ7 middle hitter and blocker will see lots of playing time this year. BrittneyÕs quick reflexes and ability to see the whole court make her an asset to the Bears. Not only does she block and hit from the middle, but her versatile athleticism makes her able to slam the ball from the outside hitter position as well. Look for great things to come from the daughter of Tammy and Charlie Eldridge. Brittney has not chosen a major yet.
photo of Heidi HazenHeidi Hazen This sophomore setter begins her first season playing with the Bears. Heidi hails from Brushton, NY. Heidi will see limited action this season at setter but continues to improve at every practice. Heidi played at Brushton-Moira High for 4 years. The daughter of Robert and Karen Hazen, Heidi has not yet declared a major. photo of Leslie TaylorTeshia Hutt Teshia begins her first year of volleyball after playing soccer last fall for the Bears. At 5Õ8 tall Teshia will likely see some time in the middle. This juniorÕs athleticism is her biggest asset. Teshia is an unconventional student, at 24 years-old. This Studio Art major is also a pitcher and shortstop for the softball team at Potsdam. The daughter of William and Jacqueline Dashnaw hails from Heuvelton.
photo of Jennnifer Hogencamp# 18 Joe DeAngelis A junior defender from St. Johnsville, Joe brings experience and knowledge to the feild. He has received such honors as Exceptional Senior and Senior All-Star in the MT. Valley Conference. Son of Beth Close, Joe is a Biology/Pre- Med major. photo of Liz Plath#22 Mark DeBoer Mark comes back to Potsdam after taking a few years off for his second season with the Bears. Mark played his high school soccer for Coach Russ Duvernoy at Hamilton High, long known for their soccer tradition. Mark's versatility on the field will help him see playing time this season. The son of George DeBoer, Mark has not chosen a major.
photo of Beth MorinBeth Morin Beth is a senior but playing her first collegiate season for the Bears. Beth is a very smart setter who knows the game of volleyball very well, but is still getting back in the groove of playing competitively. Beth played high school volleyball for Adriondack high school. Not only is Beth smart on the court but also off. Beth has been named to the PresidentÕs List four semesters, and is a member of the Omicron Psi National Honor Society. Beth is the daughter of Don and Kathy Hall. photo of Trisha WickwireTrisha Wickwire Trisha begins her first season of volleyball, but is no stranger to intercollegiate athletics. Last year Trisha played basketball and softball for Potsdam. This sophomore is hampered by injuries unforunately, and will see very limited playing time due to stress fractures. A native of Potsdam, NY, Trisha went to Parishville-Hopkinton. The daughter of Bob and Lois Wickwire, Trisha has Spanish, Politics, and Psychology majors.
