February 2001

Dear Alumni,

Greetings from the SUNY Potsdam Bears Menís Soccer program. We would like to thank those of you who have contributed to our program over the years. Without your support, our program would not be what it is today. For those of you that are new alumnus, congratulations and we hope you will take advantage of continuing the spirit at Maxcy Hall.

Over the last two years we have seen tremendous improvement with our menís soccer program. In fact, the fall 2000 season was our first outright winning record in sixteen years. The highlight of the season was a 1-0 victory over Plattsburgh State at Plattsburgh. The last two seasons have also produced two Adidas Northeast Region 3rd Team All-Americans; Joe Knox ('99) from Edwards, NY and Jeff Hardy ('00) from Buffalo. Your support has made a difference in the recruitment of such individuals.

Your thoughtfulness and generosity have also lead to the construction of a new locker room, which will be available to view and use during Alumni weekend, July 12-14.

As you may have heard, this year SUNY Potsdam will soon be embarking on a capital campaign. $500,000 of this campaign has been designated to support SUNY Potsdam athletics. $250,000 will be used to enhance and upgrade Maxcy Hall, which will include honoring former coach and athletic director, Jerry Welsh with the naming of the gymnasium. The remaining $250,000 will be raised for a travel and recruitment endowment fund for all teams. We are very excited about this campaign, as these funds will certainly help every athletic program at SUNY Potsdam. We hope you will consider making a gift over and above your annual gift to our team, to help us accomplish our campaign goals. You could even pledge a gift to athletics now and spread the payments over the next five years. And, for gifts or pledges of $500 or more, your name will be placed on a special plaque in Maxcy Hall, and you would be eligible to receive a complimentary pass to play in our "Presidentís Cup" Donor Appreciation Golf Tournament in Massena on Friday, July 13 during reunion weekend! Many athletic alumni games will be taking place on July 14 of that weekend as well.

A current student will be calling you soon to ask you about a gift. If you would like to make a gift, you can do so directly via our online giving form https://www.safepage.com/potsdam. We thank you in advance for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Joe Vaadi Jim Zalacca
Coach Athletic Director
