Oneonta State senior attackman Bill Tremont (Watertown/South Jefferson) and SUNY Potsdam senior long-stick midfielder Joe Zech (Homer/Homer) have been selected the 1999 Empire Lacrosse League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
Tremont, a two-time ELL first-team selection, led the Red Dragon offensive with 10 goals and 12 assists in four league contests. Overall, Tremont scored 29 goals and added 32 assists, to help the 11-ranked Red Dragons to its second consecutive ELL title. Tremont is one of six Red Dragons on the ELL first team.
Zech, a three-time ELL first-team selection, dominated opponents' top midfielders on defense. His outstanding stick skills enabled him to pick up 26 ground balls, score three goals and add one assist in three league games. Zech finished the season with 83 ground balls, eight goals, and five assists. Five other Potsdam players were also named to ELL teams.
SUNY Potsdam freshman midfielder Jed Hammill (Brasher Falls/St. Lawrence Central) and Oneonta State freshman midfielder Steve Kramer (Ossining/Ossining) have been named ELL Co-Rookies of the Year.
Hammill scored nine goals and added six assists in four league games and earned second-team All-ELL honors. Hammill finished the year second on the Bears scoring list with 23 goals and 18 assists.
Kramer scored ten goals and added two assists in four league contests and earned first-team All-ELL honors. This season, Kramer has scored 16 goals and added six assists for the Red Dragons.
For the second consecutive season, Oneonta State head coach Jim Nagle (Loyola '92) has been named ELL Coach of the Year. Nagle has guided the Red Dragons to two ELL titles and nine consecutive wins in league play. Under his direction, the Red Dragons finished the regular season 10-3, 4-0 in ELL play and are ranked 11 in the nation.
