ELMIRA, NY – The top-seeded Elmira College Soaring Eagles advanced to the championship game of the ECAC Division III Upstate New York Men’s Lacrosse Championship with a 16-10 victory over the fourth-seeded Bears of SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears opened the scoring, only twenty seconds into the contest on a goal by Keith Hughes. The Soaring Eagles responded with five consecutive goals taking a 5-1 advantage mid way through the first quarter. Potsdam outscored Elmira 2-1 before the end of the first period, and trailed 6-3 heading into the second stanza.
Elmira netted three more goals in the second period and took a 9-4 lead into the intermission.
Elmira moved on to the championship game on Sunday, May 14th to take on the winner of today’s SUNY Oneonta/SUNY Oswego contest.
