bibliographies usually include journal articles among the publications they list.  See the section on "Bibliographies" on the guide you have received.  If the bibliography is "annotated" then there are descriptive or critical comments on the articles listed, a valuable feature.
  • Indexes, usually updated annually or more often, list articles by subject and author.  They are mostly available either in paper or on the library web site - (www.potsdam.edu/library).

Some of the indexes of interest to historians are:

Finding the articles:   The most complete listing of available journals is provided through the link called Periodical Title Search on the library homepage.  Type in the TITLE of the journal you are looking for - to see whether it is available here.  Check to see what dates are available either in paper or online. If the title is not available or your article falls outside the years we have of the journal, you can request the article through Interlibrary loan.

Use the “ArticleLinker” button wherever it appears in a search result to see if the library has the journal in paper or in another online source.

Identifying more historical periodicals:  See this comprehensive list - Historical periodicals;  an annotated world list of historical and related serial publications.
