"Earth is the cradle of humanity but one cannot live in the cradle forever"
-taken from a letter written by
Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in 1911.
Exochemistry
is defined here as "the science of how to perform chemical
reactions in space."
Thus it asks the question, "how could we make materials in space?" If we are ever to establish a presence in a place
other than Earth, we will need to produce materials in that place, under very different conditions from those we find on Earth.
