Student Computing Support Team

Mission:

To provide support for all student-related computing issues, services, resources and facilities. The support provided is not the technical support provided by other data-services support teams such as the Macintosh Support Team, the Wintel Support Team or the Hosts/Servers Support Team.

Departmental priorities

1996-97 Service Goals:

1. Provide free laser printing services to all SUNY Potsdam students and fee-based laser printing to the public. (RJ) 2. Implement the 1996-97 SCAP plan. (RJ) 3. Manage, upgrade and enhance student computing facilities in Levitt, residence halls, Kellas, Flagg, Dunn, Satterlee and. (RJ) 4. Provide limited general-public access to the Levitt Center computing facilities. [Public Service] (RJ) 5. Provide student training sessions on supported campus applications and computing resources. (RJ)

1996-97 Planning Goals:

1. Understand and anticipate the student-related service/support needed to succesfully meet the mission of SUNY Potsdam. (ISD) (RJ) 2. Annually evaluate the current status of technology in student computing areas and identify needs and opportunities. (RJ) 3. Conduct ongoing strategic planning (anticipating, assessing needs) for student-related technologies and services. (RJ) 4. Emphasize partnerships and set high expectations for user independence. (RJ) 5. Work collaboratively with students (e.g., Student Technology Advisory Board)to articulate their needs and to determine how to best meet these needs. (ISD) 6. Plan and manage an integrated apprach to the delivery of personal computing, network, telephone and media services to the student community that is focused upon customer satisfaction. (RJ) 7. Develop 1997-98 SCAP plan with Academic Computing Advisory Committee by 5/97. (RJ) 8. Meet with Student Technology Advisory board to present and discuss plans for improving student information services at least once per semester. (RJ) 9. Actively participate in the planning of broader student IT issues such as privacy, copyright, code of conduct. (RJ) 10. Develop plan to provide every student with satisfactory access (e.g., color, LAN speed, convienent) to the WWW/News and to email. (ISD) 11. Annually assess how well we are performing for students relative to our mission and goals by specifying what will be evaluated, who will do the evaluation, and by when. 12. Increase the productivity of students (learning, research) via access to information resources and services. (ISD)

1996-97 Development Goals

1. Provide non-technical support for student data services-related projects: a. Residence Hall Network project (ISD) b. Developing Residential Computing Support c. Bibliographic instruction laboratory in Crumb Library (ISD) d. Create a centralized residential student computing laboratory (ISD) 2. Stay abreast of new technologies, with particular attention to the digital convergence of voice, video and data technologies. (RJ) 3. Develop technology alliances and partnerships with SUNY schools and other institutions, as needed, to augment the team's efforts. (RJ) 4. Provide timely presentations and training sessions on current and emerging voice/video/data technologies; e.g., Brown-bag technology sharing sessions. (RJ) 5. Provide training and "awareness" opportunities. (ISD) 6. Support and promote our College's technological competitiveness. (RJ) 7. Maintain the College's reputation for excellence in Information Technology making the College more attractive to SUNY resource providers, prospective students and their parents, and potential donors. (ISD) 8. Maintain a presence within SUNY as an active participant in SUNY-wide information technology intiatives. (ISD) 9. Support and promote student technical competency/literacy. (RJ) 10. Create an exciting, challenging place to work that enhances the quality of life for every member of the team. (RJ/DCTM mission) 11. Support the development of our human resources by enhancing job satisfaction, sense of personal achievement, providing opportunities to develop and refine job skills. (ISD) 12. Support the improvement and expansion of our information services, such as documentation, alerts, productivity tips, Web-based info. (RJ) 13. Encourage and facilitate the use of technology to suppport innovation and effectiveness in teaching and learning. (ISD)
