Network Services Team

Current Goals/Responsibilities

1. Alerting campus of network (voice, video, data) problems


2. Security
  - Secure from "hacking", unauthorized access from off- and on-campus
  - wiring closet access


3. User accounts on hosts:
  - need to manage these so that accounts for students/employees who have left
    are removed


4. Conferencing
  - NOTES on the VAXes (alternatives?  maintain?)
  

5. Internet connection
  - redundancy if primary link to Syracuse goes down
 

6. SUNYNet
  - develop calling list when there are SUNYNet-related problems


7. Host services for off-campus users
  - Davide Weber (English/SCA) wants to provide access to a database and gopher
  - Chuck Mlynarczyk (Education) wants to provide a gopher host
  - Bill Doody (Education) wants to provide access to public schools via grant $
  - Providing access to teachers and other campus affiliates/partners


8. Billing
  - current department policy on billing for materials and labor


9. Proposed network client services
  - IRC
  - WWW browsing w/ Mosaic, Cello, Netscape, etc.
  - CU-SeeMe
  - Apple's QuickTime Video Conferencing (MovieTalk)


10. Projects
  - cabling student rooms in residential buildings (wiring/hubs)
  - switching hub technology for campus ethernet segments


11. Research
  - ATM
  - Hub technology
