AppleTalk Optimization at SUNY
Potsdam
AppleTalk Recommendations
for SUNY Potsdam
Things We Should Do:
- Have
all ethernet addresses of the main devices on the LAN available easily in
digital and printed format.
- Routers
- Establish 2 Seed Routers on the network. One on each side of the main bridges. Make sure to have backup configuration files for these routers in digital and print copy.
- Preferably they should both be on UPS backups.
- Be able to monitor for RTMP Packets on each side of the bridges and know ahead of time what it should read.
- Change AppleTalk network range to 1-20 from 1-9.
- Purchase additional NuBus ethernet cards for network analysis/monitoring. (quantity unknown at this time)
- Install and use the Skyline / Satellite product to monitor/analyze network load and problems.
- Do more intensive in-house training (and cross training) on the use of the network applications that we have.
- Consider the best office location for Dave and Justin with the amount of "operations" stuff taking place in Kellas.
- Get demo/eval copies of GraceLAN - network and LAN Surveyor to see if either of these will significantly optimize the support we are able to provide for our network.
