1. Status Reports:

a. Any Network Services projects pending/waiting? - Elevator phone status. It works as it is supposed to! b. Shiva LANRover status - Winsock problems: results of Mike Mecurio's fix. Seems to have solved the dial-in problem for PC users that were having a problem. Justin changed the LANRover settings to accomodate this fix. Dave/Mike will also look into using Shiva's PPP dial-in program. - Lapsing funds purchase: We purchased (30) Cardinal 28.8 modems to replace all modems used for dial-in. No plan for the 14.4 modems at this point. We have also purchased another LANRover unit. We may want to segregate our dial-in users when all of this equipment is installed. (21 ports for students; 8 ports - faculty/staff use; 3 - DC/TM use) - Russ Nelson has asked to take the NetHopper he loaned us. He needs it for parts. We will reclaim the 3 dial-in lines that had been used with this unit. c. Wiring the Residence Halls project status report: A number of people have expressed interest in working for Adirondack Cabling. We will give them the company's telephone #, but that's it. d. Unix hosts - changeover status/working w/ Russ Nelson: Qmail has been installed. Dave asked the NST team to be "beta-testers" so that it can be tested/evaluated. e. Security for Kellas Hall - Lapsing fund purchases: everything ordered; need to get students over to Kellas to finish moving items from the library room to their new location across the hall. f. Downstream access to the Internet for Potsdam Central. (PCS) - DEC's wireless bridge connection (Jonathan Sweeney is supposed to deliver this next week (NOTE: We now have the unit ) - NSF grant: Carm is concerned about who and how we will deal with ongoing maintenance/repairs/liability of the fiber that is proposed to be installed from SUNY Potsdam to PCS.

2. New items:

a. Gerry Beaulieu has requested a new printer for the Lehman fire alarm system. He needs the details of what to get and where to get it. - Dave and Garnet will take a look at this. Also, as of now he is planning to put one florescent per IDF closet. He would like our input on that. - This is OK. b. Crane network requests: - Install network and TV cable to lobby of Hosmer Hall (gallery and ticket office). - Install network access in the ticket office of Snell Hall. - Provide network access to Snell and Hosmer concert halls, preferable somewhere on the floor of the stage or near the orchestra pit. - Provide network access to Bishop 101, 107, 119, 123. - Bob will submit a formal Network Services Request form to get this project started (estimates). We will cover the cost of materials for the instructional spaces and concert halls. Crane will be asked to cover the cost of materials for the ticket offices. c. Evaluate Network Services Team: Should we continue as-is or change? Address at next meeting d. Around the table: - Garnet: Keith Compeau has asked us to recommend whether to use a 10BaseT hublet or 3Com ethernet thinnet cards for the computers on the CD-ROM LAN. We recommend the 3Com cards so that the computers could be used elsewhere if they were removed from this LAN. - Brenda: Ellen Smith would like to present the plans for the Diversity Office/bookstore moves at our next meeting. Brenda will submit the inventory she has for the old phones in the Knowles MPR so that they can be surplused. - Carm: Will meet with Gerry Beaulieu to determine what should be done to ventilate the switch room in Raymond. - Justin: NST should work on developing its plans for backup roles as outlined under Planning below.
