1. Old Business: - Shiva LANRover problems/update. Still waiting for additional memory. (The next update to the LanRover includes FAXing capability.) - Skyline update. Latest beta is no better than previous versions. - Library CD-ROM server. No change in status. (NOTE: I asked Geri to check on this at our last ISD Directors meeting) - Key systems (telephones). Brian is counting and separating all of the old phones and placing everything in Knowles. - 2400 baud modems. Reviewed Carm and Brenda's modem pool plan. (see last week's minutes for details) Seems to work. - TV "banner" for the InfoChannel. No update. 2. New Business: - Brenda will follow-up with Gerry Beaulieu on when the switch will be powered off to place it on the back-up generator. - Temp. Service for summer projects: * Dave will need a student to work on Unix host problems/setup (How about usercode clean-up too?) * Carm needs a student to check all TV and telephone connections in the residence halls. * Justin requested a student to help with WWW development and data- communication updates on personal computers throughout the campus. * Brenda submitted her needs in an email message earlier. - NEWS feed to Plattsburgh/LISTPROC from CREN: Bob asked Dave to study both of these issues and to give the team a report on the problems/concerns of doing either or both. Dave expressed concern over the load the news feed to Plattsburgh would have on our Unix host. - Jim Oliver, Engineer w/ Cabletron, will be on campus do do a site survey on 4/5/95. This is related to the wiring the residence halls project. - Bob distributed an "Acceptable Use Policy" from Stanford. Will discuss at next meeting. - Brenda reported that the maintenance contract for "dorm" phones will expire on 3/31/95. We will need to purchase replacement phones to have on hand. Brenda suggested 200 or so at approximately $25 each. 3. What's Important to accomplish by next week? - Fix the LANRovers if memory arrives. (Bob/Justin) - Work on lapsing-funds requests. (Consider back-up equipment). (Team) - Work on defining what summer projects should be accomplished and what problem(s) they address/resolve. Also determine how much Temp. Service help will be needed to complete these projects over the summer. (Team) 4. Continuation of discussion on alerting campus of problems with network services: - NOTE: We need to document our work here in a form that others in the department can refer to when there are network problems. Suggestions? - Discussed 2 major areas of concern based upon the network problems we experienced over the past week: a. What are our roles when there is a problem? Justin - volunteered to act as the point of contact when network problems are found and are not being handled by anyone as part of their routine work (e.g., Dave and email queues, etc.) Justin will report to the team each week whatever problems were dealt with; others will report problems they worked on as well. We will use this info to help us define a better process of identifying problems, alerting the affected users and resolving problems. Brenda - volunteered to act as the point of contact for information about network problems. She will coordinate efforts to alert affected users. Brenda will begin compiling information on who to call for what problems. Justin and others who find *any* network problems will let Brenda know about them. b. Wireles communications. Brenda will investigate the cost of using cellular phones on campus vs. pagers. 6. Next meeting (Weds, 3/8 @ 8:30am) --> **Please** arrive a few minutes early so we can start promptly @ 8:30am.
