Pete B. and members of the group discussed the budget situation; however, it is all in the realm of speculation, as nothing new is known at this time.

Pete B. reported on retirement and reappointment dates, as well as promotion and salary adjustment dates. Some notification dates may be delayed.

The group was in agreement that Potsdam should continue its membership in CAUSE for '95-96. The fee is around $170, and the IS office will pay that fee.

It was agreed that Cynthia, Doug and Pete B. will coordinate upcoming technology conference announcements for placement in the REPORTER. As well, to provide incentive for attending these conferences, Information Services will make funds available for faculty travel. See the REPORTER next week (3/24) for details.

Pete H. reported on his TCP meeting in San Francisco. He distributed materials on kiosks, and talked about an upcoming Banner GUI (graphical user interface). It is not too early to start assessing future campus upgrade needs, and ways to accommodate users. It was noted that Banner 2.15 could be expensive for some people, involving major upgrades.

Bob distributed a draft mission statement that Distributed Computing is working on, and it was discussed by this group. The consensus was good. The statement is attached to the end of these minutes.

Pete B. received a SUNY Distance Learning report from President Merwin, that he will copy and distribute to the members of this group, for us to read.

Geri distributed a spreadsheet showing the summer schedule of the Cluster Migration, that is, Cluster 1 to Cluster 3 from May 4 through August 7. This switch from Morrisville to Plattsburgh, the transfer of the whole database, is a whole summer process. For example, OPAC will not be available June 7-8; Circulation will not be up June 7-11 and August 2-7; there will be a over a 2-month period of no cataloguing. Geri also noted that the Crane conversion continues to be moving well.

Bob reported on his visit to Fort Drum with two Clarkson people (Rick Valente from their Computer Center and Jerry Lambert from ROTC). They toured the half-million dollar video conferencing facility. A JCC connection made through Fort Drum might be a possibility.

Bruce reported that the Alpha box is due up on the 27th, and DEC will be called to pick up the 4600 if all is well. Banner will not be up on Mar. 25. See "NEWS" on the Vax. Bruce is awaiting quotes for the RZ29 disk drives needed for the Alpha box.

Our next meeting date is TENTATIVELY scheduled for Friday, March 31 at 9:00 a.m. in Raymond 205.
