Pete B. said that not much more is known about the 95-96 budget at this point. There was discussion about the need for flexibility at the local level, and about the possibility of an attractive retirement incentive. Pete B. indicated that he may be attending workshops in Albany next week on Monday and Tuesday.

There was a brief discussion of the search for a new AVP/IS, and the need to proceed in the event the position can ultimately be filled. There is a meeting of that Search Committee at 2 pm this afternoon. We are in the process of reviewing the candidate's resumes, 35 of them.

On the subject of travel, as yet there is no freeze; we are cautioned to think about that, however.

Pete B. and Bob Jewett are attending the Planning Committee meeting on Monday morning, the 13th. Some materials that address the College's technology goals include, obviously, the ETI (Educational Technology Initiatives) plan, the Campus Computing Plan, and Cynthia will also delve back into the Middle States accreditation report to see what technology goals may have been outlined at that time.

Pete B. distributed the upcoming SUNY Technology Conference Schedule for Spring 1995; he also distributed a Watertown Daily Times article entitled "Students Go On-Line to Cyberspace Classes", on distance learning at The New School.

Salary issues were discussed, largely in reference to "contractual minimums".

The letter-writing effort and email was discussed. Bob reported that most representatives do not have email anyway; thus the question of whether email is State-supported and the appropriateness of using State equipment/funds is not a big issue. There was also a discussion of how Distributed Computing handles "broadcasting" requests on Audix; "very limited" as Bob put it, because of the load it puts on the system.

Bob noted that there are scheduled SUNYNet outages for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th), and asked how users are notified. Bruce indicated that scheduled outages are always broadcast on "NEWS" on the Vax system sign-on screen as soon as the outage notification is received. It is the UNscheduled outages that cause problems. For example, it was mentioned that HRD is critical, as they regularly use the system on weekends. Bob reported on his targeted email distribution list to keep users informed.

Geri said that with Ariel is not entirely up; the Library can send, but cannot receive.

Bruce reported that by using the ZIP+4 software, there was $1674 savings on postage on one mailing project alone. The software is proving to be a very good investment.

At this meeting, it was agreed that the group will meet again on February 23rd, unless Pete B. calls one before that time.

Subsequent to the meeting, however, Pete B. is calling a meeting at the regular time on February 16 to discuss the "5 and 10 percent" cuts. As well, Pete B. said that the meeting for the 23rd will have to be rescheduled due to a President's Council meeting.

To summarize: we will have a meeting on the 16th; NO meeting on the 23rd; and next regular meeting on March 2.
