PURPOSE: (1) A presentation before classes start should pre-empt students from getting "misinformation" from faculty and other students. It would give students an early jump on learning about email, WWW, future workshops, future information sources. (2) It would give us an opportunity to start students off on the "right foot" with us and help us get the message about email, the Web, workshops out much faster through word-of-mouth. (3) This would prepare us in planning what to do and how to do it for "orientation" that will take place later. WHAT: special 1-1.5 hour presentation on information technology at SUNY Potsdam which would outline: - how email works at SUNY Potsdam (where to get software; how to determine what your account name and eamail address are) - a "cybertour" of computing facilities on campus available for student use - a brief intro to the WWW and where it can be used. - perhaps a brief explanation of what to do to connect to the network from your room with a modem. WHERE: MPR? Stowell 211? One of the Residence Halls? WHEN: 7 - 8/8:30pm TO DO: Distribute announcement of presentation at Orientation '95 along w/ other material.
STATUS: 8/7 - talked to Chip Morris about this. Students will have a choice of attending 1 of 3 possibilities for the day on Sunday (Ottawa, Lake Placid, on-campus). Told him that he could forget about this possiblity unless I got back to him < 8/16
