Policy/Procedure: Approving a Departmental Project

Return to Department Policies...

When a project will have an impact across the department, we need a
consistent process to follow to understand and evaluate the project's merits.

This process is not necessarily intended for team-specific projects; that is,
projects handled within a team that does not alter the team's annual goals
  and priorities.

Project proposal questions to be answered:

    1. What is the purpose of the project? (What is the problem it addresses?)

    2. What are the project's goals and target date for completion?

    3. What/who is needed (i.e., resources) to complete the project?

    4. What are the benefits/costs of this project?

    5. How does the project support department/college goals?

    6. How might this poroject impact current department services and goals?

Present proposal to Department Team for evaluation/approval. The evaluation
should be based upon benefits outweighing costs.
