Interview with: Chris Strong, Interim Vice-President
                    Enrollment and Student Services

Interview date: 2/6/97

Questions: 1. How satisfied you (and your division) are with technology support and services? * Generally satisfied with our services. 2. What services and support could be improved? * It has been difficult getting purchasing information from us. 3. Is your division considering any new technology initiatives for the next year? * Most staff within this division (15 departments) use word processing and email as their primary applications. During the year there is no very little time to learn about Web-based activities (finding and/or publishing information). Some departments have established web pages; others are working on it. Encourage all to explore the possibilities available. * Having a community web-based "bulletin board" for posting ads, messages is a good idea. 4. What are your most important concerns and priorities for the next year? * Getting timely assistance from us when there is a problem. * Getting advice on computer resources (purchasing info, etc.). * Meet with department heads at the next division staff meeting to review technology needs. 2/26/97 @ 1:30pm in Barrington Union 203 (arrive at 2pm) NOTE: Met with staff and noted the following comments: - Responsiveness to problems in the past has been far too slow (4 months to resolve problems in Len Czarnecki's office) - Getting computers installed has been a problem. - Barrinton Union rooms 203,205,210,212 need access to the campus network - Students may be engaging in commercial activity by posting ads they are paid for whenever anyone clicks on them (5 cents/click) - Without training, replacing computers on the life-cycle method will not be worthwhile. - The campus should consider ways to secure email so that web browsers cannot send "phony" email. - Providing back-up services for staff computers would be a very valuable service. - Sue Thomas would like recommendations for OCR software. - This staff would like to hire students to help them design and develop their web pages. Many thought that their choice of students to hire could be based upon that particular student's own web page.
