Interview with: Eileen Raymond, Interim Dean
                 School of Education

Interview date: 2/12/97

Questions: 1. How satisfied you (and your school) are with technology support and services? * Timliness of support was particularly bad last semester. It really makes a difference to hear from DC/TM that someone is working on the ' problem (a variation on the notion that, "Your customer wants to know you care before they care that you know.") 2. What services and support could be improved? * Many staff still seem mystified by the telephone system. The features (voice-mail lists; greeting options) may need to be explained again via a brown-bag session or special training. * Basic instructional technology (overheads, etc) is lacking in most classrooms. * Old hanging B&W TVs should be removed from the walls in the classrooms of Satterlee Hall. * Satterlee 200 and 220 should be targeted for projection technology. Check with Chuck Mlynarczyk on this. * Check with Health & Physical Education on the need for more instructional space in Maxcy. * Target Satterlee Hall or Flagg Hall for future Distance Learning facilities. These buildings are used much more for evening classes. * Find out why the graduate web pages are not linked on the Education homepage. O'Shaughnessy's class needs to know how to do this. 3. Is your school considering any new technology initiatives for the next year? * Upgrade Satterlee 300 projection system (being ordered). * There may be a "consortial degree" offered by the SUNY colleges in the North Country at Ft. Drum. If so, it would be supported by distance learning technology. Gary Coleman would be the point person for this at our campus. 4. What are your most important concerns and priorities for the next year? * All faculty have appropriate equipment. * Position our college to be an appropriate player in distance learning. * Be sure to talk with Chuck Mlynarczyk about the 4 new faculty coming in and what the plans are for getting them a computer. * Be sure to talk with Neal Johnson about new faculty arriving and what the need is for more instructional space in Maxcy Hall. * Be sure to talk with Gary Coleman about the needs of Continuing Education. * Each person above should also be thinking about "transformative gifts" that would be part of the new Capital Campaign.
