Interview with: Al Robinson, Chair
Chuck Foster, Mary Rutley, Leo Simone
Biology Department
Interview date: 3/28/97
Questions:
1. How satisfied you (and your department) are with technology support and
services?
DC/TM is still slow in getting some tasks completed (e.g., Pei Juo's
external hard drive).
Technology support services are understaffed.
2. What services and support could be improved?
How can one publish Acrobat documents?
The campus should have a good web presence and there should be a "search"
engine for our campus web.
3. Is your department considering any new technology initiatives for the
next year?
Need to replace all departmental Mac SE30s.
Secure all equipment in student labs.
Need color printing for overhead transparencies; need to use a facility
that could project color images as well (outside Stowell).
Leo is still interested in imaging; that is, capturing images from a lab
microscope so that students could edit the images to add labels, etc.
(the Canon "gooseneck" camera might be ideal for this application)
Upgrade Claris Works across campus.
4. What are your most important concerns and priorities for the next
year?
1) Replace faculty computers so they can use the latest software.
2) Replace Mac SE30s.
3) Replace department's laser printer.
